| Abstract: | The media has always been at the vanguard of propagating our culture through their various activities like news reportage and showing of movies. They see the movie industry as a ready tool for promoting the nation's rich cultural heritage even beyond the shores of the country. The Nigeria movies' high consumption rate in the country, Africa and across the globe is a clear indication that Nollywood is a cultural phenomenon imbued with people's way of life. This Study therefore assessed Nollywood movies as tools for propagating Nigeria cultural values and heritage. Survey research method was adopted for the study. Hence, four hundred copies of questionnaire were distributed to the residents of Ebonyi State to sample their opinion on the contributions of Nollywood in promoting the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria. It was discovered that Nollywood movies wield great influence on the Nigeria culture. Through Nollywood, some aspects of our culture that would have gone into extinction are gradually being revived. Nigeria Movies warn people of the need to shun negative cultural practices to avert consequences of evil practice and as well encourage them to uphold the positive ones. We suggest that Nigeria government should encourage the movie industry in this crusade to preserve our cultural heritage by enhancing its growth through funding. |
