Abstract: | This study examined the influence of corporate social responsibilities on the development of host communities, with focus on Promasidor Nigeria Limited (PNL). The study was carried out in Enugu metropolis, Enugu State. Survey research method was adopted with a structured questionnaire used as the instrument of data collection. Purposive sampling method was used to select the respondents on whom copies of the questionnaire were administered to. 400 respondents were selected as the sample size which was arrived at using the Taro Yamane formula. From the 400 copies of questionnaire administered, 372 were properly filled and returned. The findings of the study revealed that almost all of the respondents have good knowledge of the organization – Promasidor Nigeria Limited but only when associated with their flagship product – Cowbell milk. Also, most of the respondents have heard about at least one of the CSR programmes sponsored by the organization even-though only a handful have actually participated in them. The findings further revealed the respondents' agreement to the statement that the sponsored CSR programmes would help in sustainable community development. This is besides their positive thoughts, opinions and views on the numerous impacts that these programmes would have on the individual in particular and the host communities in general. Based on the findings of this study, the researchers recommended that for the sustenance of these CSR programmes, maximum publicity should be given to it through the mix of conventional and new media, and that, local dialects should be incorporated in the message content in order to capture the interest and understanding of most of the target audience. |
