| Abstract: | With the misconceptions, misapplications and quackery prevalent in the practice of public relations, this paper takes a look at the worth of public relations to a specialized communication college. The research is domiciled in the NTA Television College, Jos, where a sample of 348 respondents is determined following the recommendation of Wimmer & Doninick (2000). The theoretical underpinnings are the excellence theory and the situational theory. It tries to ascertain the staff and students awareness and knowledge of public relations practice; extent of its application on the college's reputation management; the level of service satisfaction of the various publics of the college and the result of PR on managing the college's reputation. Questionnaire and interview were the instruments for data collection. Findings show that the NTA Television College are using PR strategies in relating with its various publics, and applies it in reputation management which has impacted positively on the productivity of the College. The study concludes that PR can be used to enhance and manage the image and reputation of an organization for better results. It however recommends that definite PR department be set up at the College with its role properly defined. |
