Title: Strategic Communications, Community Relations and Policing as Tools for Sustainable National Security in Nigeria

Abstract: The paper examined community relations and community policing vis-à-vis sustainable national security and the pivotal roles of strategic communication in reshaping the Nigeria's security image among comity of nations. It viewed collaborative communication between the community and the police including other security agencies as imperative for sustainable national security. The paper x-rayed the strategies for implementing community policing, evaluated the effectiveness of community policing and drew a boundary line between community policing and traditional policing. The cultivation and Corporate Social Responsibility theories were used as bedrocks to anlayse the study. The paper concluded that effective synergy among community policing, community relations and strategic communication can largely guarantee sustainable national security. It recommended that collaborative efforts among relevant stakeholders–the community, the police and other security agencies as well as communication experts will guarantee sustainable national security in Nigeria.
