Abstract: | This article interrogates the human cost of violence in Nigeria in the recent time, thus departing from previous scholarly studies which focused only on past records from many years ago without much data from a recognised database such as global peace index and Nigeria Watch Database etc. Based on mixed methods of quantitative and qualitative approaches, the investigation was carried out. In the analysis, content as well as descriptive analytical tools were used such as simple percentages, frequency tables, and data reduction techniques. The study was anchored on Frustration Aggression theory. The paper identifies among other gaps dearth of reputable statistical database on crime in the country. Moreover, the data available underestimates the high rate of violence in rural Nigeria. Hence, the need to establish more indigenous database on crime to encourage current studies and expose high rate of criminality and human cost of violence with transparency in order to dialogue and contain such incidents in the country. |
