| Abstract: | The study examined the activities of Ebonyi State Community Based poverty Reduction Agency (EB-CPRA) and those of the Community Based Social Development Agency (EB-CSDA) on poverty reduction in Ebonyi state. The study is a qualitative research; hence, Content Analytical Approach was adopted as methodology. Data were drawn from documentary papers, journals Government/Agency publications and operation manuals, direct observation and use of structural interviews. Findings reveal that despite efforts of successive governments at poverty reduction in the state the scourge has remained pervasive. History shows that the agencies are highly rated in provisions of micro-projects to the beneficiary communities but their approach has been group-targeted rather than on the individual poor. The paper therefore recommends amongst others that adequate research should be undertaken to understand the demographic characteristics/complexities of the rural communities to enable efforts on poverty reduction be well targeted based on adequate needs assessment of beneficiaries. |
